Kids getting an ice cream sundae as a reward

Chore Reward Ideas

A great way to provide positive reinforcement for children who complete chores is to reward chores with prizes. Let’s start off with the basics. Don’t expect a child to be perfect. It will take them a while to get good at the chore. You will be disappointed if you expect perfection. Reward effort, not perfection.

Show the child how to do the chore the first time and then supervise them the second time. Give them gentle pointers for improvement. This is the toughest part. But once you get past it, it is smooth sailing. Chores are like anything else. They improve with practice.

The average allowance is based on a ratio of dollar to age. It’s usually like $.50 to $1 per age of child. For example an 8 year out would get an $8 allowance. The following list of rewards is based on a ratio of $1 to 50 points, but you can make points worth whatever you want.
